FUNFIN and the five apps people mistake it for

FUNFIN is an app that tells you how much money you can spend today: it subtracts rent, loans and savings from your accounts, then divides the rest across the days until payday. Four of the five apps below do their job well — it’s just a different job. Here’s where the line falls.

The table scrolls sideways. “Partly” means the app does something similar but answers a different question. “Unknown” means we couldn’t find confirmation and don’t want to make anything up. Each of them is good at its own thing

A comparison in which the competitors are bad at everything isn’t a comparison, it’s an ad. Here’s what they do better than us, and what that leaves for you to work out.

monobank

a banking app
What they’re strong at

Money and purchases arrive instantly, because it’s the bank itself. Reliable, convenient, and almost everyone has it. It has an open API, which we use too.

What you still work out in your head

The bank shows everything on the card, including money already promised to someone. How much of it is yours is for you to calculate.

Saldo

tracking by a Ukrainian developer, built for the US
What they’re strong at

A whole ecosystem around money: tracking, client invoices, a receipt scanner. It pulls data automatically from hundreds of US and Canadian banks.

What you still work out in your head

The app is built for the American market: Ukrainian banks don’t connect there. And it doesn’t ask “how much can I spend today?”

Monefy

a simple expense counter
What they’re strong at

Logging an expense takes two taps. And your data stays on your device: the app doesn’t even ask for access to your bank.

What you still work out in your head

Everything is manual. The app knows nothing about upcoming payments or what tomorrow holds.

Wallet

tracking with categories and budgets
What they’re strong at

The broadest set of the five: categories, budgets, reports, scheduled payments and bank connections in Europe.

What you still work out in your head

The budget lives within the calendar month. None of the listed banks are Ukrainian, so you’ll have to enter purchases yourself.

YNAB

a method for assigning every bit of money
What they’re strong at

The strongest methodology in the category: every hryvnia gets a purpose. Loans accrue interest at the stated rate, and you can see the payment breakdown.

What you still work out in your head

You have to learn the method and allocate money by hand. English only, a subscription, one currency per budget, and Ukrainian banks don’t connect.

Six things the others don’t have

None of the five gives a Ukrainian an answer for tomorrow along with purchases that arrive from the bank on their own. Here’s what exactly we do differently.

One number instead of a report

Other apps hand you a table and leave the conclusion to you. FUNFIN draws the conclusion: 437 ₴ today. The table is there too, but further down, and it explains exactly that number.

We count to the next money

Not to the end of the month. If you’re paid on October 8, we divide by 19 days. For people who are paid unevenly, the calendar month is simply the wrong unit.

What’s promised is subtracted in advance

Rent, a loan payment, money you owe a friend and your reserve disappear from the number before you pay them. So the number doesn’t jump sharply when the 22nd arrives.

Savings are never offered for spending

Money in envelopes and your reserve are subtracted from the daily number. And when you spend from an envelope, the number doesn’t twitch: that money was already counted as set aside.

The budget adapts to your income

You set three levels: minimum, target and maximum. The app picks the one your income for this period can sustain. So the budget doesn’t break in a bad month and doesn’t lie in a good one.

An advisor that calculates rather than advises

You ask in words — the answer comes from the same calculation as on the screens. It doesn’t name funds or banks, doesn’t do anything on its own, and shows how a tip would change your daily number.

You can see where every number came from

Every line is labeled: this has already happened, this is planned, and this we calculated. Money that’s only been promised sits apart and stays out of the total.

What we don’t have

If you need something on this list, it’s more honest to say so up front.

  • Investments and cryptoWe don’t see your stocks and we don’t advise where to put money.
  • Taxes and FOP accountingThis isn’t bookkeeping. There are no reports for the tax office here. (FOP is a registered sole proprietor in Ukraine.)
  • Automatic exchange ratesDollars and euros are supported, but for now you enter the rate yourself.
  • NotificationsThe app doesn’t message you on its own. There’s no notification channel yet.
  • More than one bankFor now only monobank works automatically. The rest is by file or by hand.
  • A long track recordThe product is young. Saldo and Wallet have been doing tracking longer than we have.

The easiest way to compare is to see your own number

Connect a card or type in one balance. Your number appears after step two, and then you’ll see whether it answers your question.
